Writers’ Collective Publishes Inspiring Feminist Books for Kids aged 8+
Jump! Books is a women writers’ collective, founded by Lynn Schreiber, which publishes books with inspiring and empowering messages. The non-fiction and fiction books feature positive role models and adventurous female protagonists. In November, the following books were published.
Dr Sarah Whitfield is a Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre at University of Wolverhampton. She researches musical theatre history, and works as a dramaturg and director for new musicals. Her book 12 Awesome Women of the Stage, will be available to purchase from 18th November 2015.
The third book in the #12Women series highlights the lives and achievements of writers, directors, producers, lighting designers, actors and dancers.
The 12 Women are: Cicely Hamilton, Joan Littlewood, Tharon Musser, Florence Mills, Paulette Randall, Kiri Te Kanawa, Marie Jones, Rukhsana Ahmad, Emma Cons Laura Keene, Adah Isaacs Menken, and Audra McDonald.
The cover illustration shows Florence Mills, by Emily Brady. The chapter illustrations are inspiring quotes from the women portrayed.
Millie Slavidou is a British writer and translator living and working in Greece. Her previous books in the Lucy Evans, InstaExplorer were published by Jump! Mag in 2014 and 2015.
Christmas in Greece is a re-release of a book previously available only on Kindle. It continues the story of a young British teenager, who travels the world, experiencing the cultures and traditions of other countries; in this book Lucy takes part in Greek festive traditions.
The cover illustration, by Emily Brady, portrays Lucy in traditional Greek costume. The chapter illustrations are Instagram-Style photos ‘posted’ by Lucy on social media.
